Gas turbines and coal plants can be sticky on the grid because they serve a purpose. Retiring a single coal plant 10 years early can have a bigger climate impact than gigawatts of solar, but it’s hard to do. Meridian was founded by experienced utility operators and project finance specialists to decarbonize plants faster and cheaper than current plans.

As the grid evolves and adds more variable renewable energy, it becomes critical to redevelop and decarbonize existing power infrastructure. Meridian owns and develops decarbonization strategies, such as adding electrical storage, or green hydrogen for decarbonization, for existing power plants to enable them to provide reliable, dispatchable zero-carbon power.
